What is group hug? 

Let’s start at the beginning… Magic the gathering is a collectible card game that was released in 1993 and it is still played today. Throughout much of its history the main focus has been on competitive 1v1 gameplay but more recently the Commander format has become the most popular way to play. Commander is a multiplayer format in which four players battle it out to win the game. 

There are of course many ways to play Commander but my favorite by far is group hug or political decks. These decks use political maneuvering a.k.a. smooth talking and cards that grant favors to other players in order to survive and to make it into the late game. Some group hug players never intend to win the game and team up with the strongest player, aiming for second place, while other players use tricky tactics at the very end of a game to swoop in for total victory.
